I was watching 'My Week With Marilyn' yesterday and loved the costumes used.
The costume designer Jill Taylor had 6 weeks to find all of the costumes for the entire cast and she did this trawling antique fairs, vintage shops and markets. Anything she didn't find had to be reproduced from looking at photos of Marilyn! Jill looked at pictures of Marilyn on her honeymoon with Arthur Miller and came across her wearing a man's shirt with a pencil skirt, which she reproduced.
This is my favourite outfit from the movie and I don't think it would look out of place now!
|Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe|
Apparently this outfit along with a black dress was Michelle Williams favourite too!
I am always more interested in what women were wearing on a day to day basis as evening wear and the more glamourous looks are always better documented and publicised and I think the day to day clothes are a better representation of the time!
This postcard I picked up in California last year.
