With the recent announcement of Raf Simons as the new artistic director at Christian Dior (following Galliano's dramatic exit), I thought I'd do a short blog entry about the brand.
Simons said, "I am thrilled to join this great house...The house of Dior is the symbol of absolute elegance." (Nydailynews.com)
Christian Dior's first collection The Corolle Line (the press attached the 'New Look' name to it and it stuck!) was shown in 1947.

After the rationing and general austerity of the war, the full skirts and the use of lots of material was quite shocking at the time. The silhouette of tiny waist and full skirt was to become a symbol of the 1950's.
Looking at Dior's latest collection, recently shown for A/W 2012/13 it's easy to see similarities. The classic styles never go out of fashion!

Raf Simons will present his first show for Dior in Paris in July.
