Wearable Early 1960's Styles

With the return of both British show 'The Hour' and the hit American show 'Mad Men', 1960's style is booming. Think 1960's and we think mini skirts, Biba, big twiggy eyes with perfect liquid eyeliner and flower power, but The Hour/Mad Men Style has a more mature and professional feel. As with the 'Wearable 1920's Styles' you might want to incorporate parts of the 1960's themes into your wardrobe without looking too over the top! But I say go for it!

In the late 1950's/early 1960's the full skirt that was made popular by Dior's Corelle range in 1947 was still popular, but the pencil skirt which was also launched at that time began to push ahead and become the most worn skirt in the 1960's (with pumps!). For the profession woman in the early 1960's, Jackie O was a big influence! Jackie Kennedy was known for her pastel suits with large buttons.

Wearable 1920's Styles

This year the trend for 1920's clothing and accessories has inspired designers (Ralph Lauren S/S 2012), high street and fashion magazines all over. With the  release of remake 'The Great Gatsby' now having been moved to May 2013 (I thought it felt like we've been waiting forever!) the trend for 1920's clothing is sure to stay for another few seasons.
When people think of the 1920's, they instantly think flapper dresses, cropped marcel waved hair and t-bar mary janes. There are however, other nod's to the 1920's that you can incorporate into your wardrobe without looking like your going to a fancy dress party! For example wearing a statement glasses in the day or earrings on your night out, so forget about Prohibition and add a touch of 1920's glamour to your life!

Alot of these items are original 1920's vintage but as there was a 1920's revival in the 1950's/1960's you can find elements of 1920's design in reproductions for half the price or less! Although it is tempting to resort to the high street to find what your looking for, remember buying vintage is good for the environment and more often than not, supports independent businesses!
